Botulinum Toxin Treatment
Botulinum toxin, commonly referred to as “Botox”, is an injectable medication used to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the face that are caused by muscle movement. Botulinum toxin can also be used for pain management as it pertains to clenching, grinding, TMJ disorders, and headaches.
The medication is injected into the muscle layer underneath the skin, determined precisely and uniquely for each patient. Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the nerves in your muscles so that they decrease movement. This limited muscle movement allows the reduction and elimination of fine lines and wrinkles. For TMJ-related issues and headaches, the muscles still function; however, they are weakened to help relieve pain. Typically, patients begin to notice results anywhere between 2-10 days after treatment. Results from the medication typically last 4 months, but vary depending on the patient and area of treatment.
Areas that we treat are as follows:
- Crow’s Feet (Smile Lines around Eyes)
- The 11’s (in between Eyebrows, the Glabellar Complex)
- Forehead Lines
- Lip Lines (“Smoker’s Lines”)
- High-lip lines/Gummy Smiles
- Lip Flip (creates a crisp lip border without adding volume)
- Masseter Muscles (clenching muscles from clenching and grinding)
- Temporalis Muscles (side of forehead to help relieve headaches)
- Chin (reduce the “cobblestone” appearance on chin)
Dermal Fillers:
Dermal Fillers are used to add volume to deficient areas around the nose and mouth to smooth lines and folds. The dermal filler products we use contain hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule that helps restore moisture, structure, and volume to your skin. Because of the natural component of the fillers, they provide a more youthful appearance and help restore lost volume. Fillers typically last for about a year, but vary depending on the patient and area of treatment.
Areas that we treat are as follows:
- Lips (create volume and upturn corners of lips)
- Nasolabial Folds (folds that extend from the corners of your nose to corners of mouth)
- Marionette lines (folds that extend from the corners of mouth towards sides of chin)
